It's still a beautiful world

Thank you to all new subscribers. I am humbled by family and friends who have shown interest in this blog. I will do my best to share topics and links that are relevant, inspiring, helpful and enhance our lives.

Politics and Government (U.S.)

Health Care Reform: While the Health Care Reform battle wages, I am struck by those who say we are rushing this issue. Umm, where were these people when Bush rushed us to war in Iraq (many believe it was illegal and so do I), gave tax cuts to the rich and nominated corrupt government officials who were merely 'yes men and women'? Republicans and Blue Dogs have had 20 years to work on health care reform. Clinton was working on it 16 years ago. Yes, there is a rush to get a bill passed so 47,000 million Americans have access to health care. I'm for Single Payer, but will settle for an American plan (public option).

Social Security:
A successful program to allow senior citizens to live in dignity is now being threatened with shrinking payments for millions of Americans. I don't know about you, but I think this is the next burning issue Obama faces. Stay tuned...

Domestic and Social Issues

American Indian activist Leonard Peltier, convicted in FBI agent deaths, was denied parole. The hearing was closed. Major disappointment to me and others. First Black Hired to Green Bay, WI Police Dept: Hiring of Ayres Is a racial landmark for Green Bay Police Department. It only took 152 years, but they finally did it! Homelessness grows in shadow of White House. Instead of fighting wars, shouldn't we be battling our own domestic issues? Just saying...

Our Overseas Friends

Scotland: Lockerbie bomber, Al-Megrahi is home, and he is innocent. This case has all the similarities of the U.S. 9/11 terrorist attack in that it may have been an inside job by the U.S. government. Things aren't always as we are told...

This and That...

African American Culture and Tradition: Curly African American hair can be a challenge for active, busy parents. When my girls were small, every Saturday I would wash their hair, turn on relaxing (or dance) music, have warm oven treats on the table for them, and create works of art on their heads with braids. Sitting for an hour or so (for each child) having their little heads tugged getting the curls untangled was not fun. So it took me that much longer to be gentle with them and make it as pleasant as possible. This was also a time to bond with my girls, laugh, share stories of the week and find out what was on their minds. While other cultures may not appreciate the braids and colorful accessories attached to the braids, African Americans admire and wear their braids with pride...knowing their hair is groomed with the love taken to do these works of art.

Thank you so much Marion for the beautiful little story regarding hairbraiding and love within African-American culture.
As to the Health Reform issue and "rushing" [!] all I can say is that I haven't had ANY health coverage since Spring of 2007 and I don't see any politicans "rushing" to help me out! I'll be 62 on Sept 8th and I worked so hard to recover from being a violent-crime victim - years of painful physical-rehab/therapy - painful tests and discouraging diagnoses - and I chose to fight against the "standard medicine" Big Pharma dogma & use holistic/acupuncture/exercise/yoga/vegan-diet/authentic living as primary care, vs. the opiate/opiods and passivity that the medical System was trying to foist onto me. My reward for regardining full mobility and managing pain without drugs? LOVING MY HEALTH COVERAGE. I worked like a mule to help get President Obama elected, for many reasons, but one of the main reasons was Obama's pledge to bring in full/universal health coverage with a PUBLIC OPTION. Now we see rightwing big-biz-interests hiring black-shirt/fascist thugs to break up health-reform public meetings - just like Mussolini's and Hitler's thugs did to brutally repress progressives back in their Nazi era. Guess what? FASCISM IS ALIVE AND WELL, AND MAKING ALL THE REST OF US SICKER AND SICKER, HERE IN THE USA!
Stand up to stupid, greedy, disgusting, selfish and UNHEALTHY fascistic morons and eejits - STAND UP FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH, READERS! YOUR OWN LIVES ARE AT STAKE!

Your feedback is very much appreciated, Alice. It helps to know what viewers like. You've gone through quite an ordeal without health coverage and I'm sure you worry daily that something may go wrong. The stress alone is debilitating. I admire you for actively taking charge of your health and seeking out alternative methods. This has probably lengthened your life. This is the route I chose too and it feels good to be medication-free.

Good for you for supporting Obama and helping him get elected. I believe you will be rewarded for this, even those who did not support him will benefit. Obama seems confident we will have health care reform by the end of the year. Because he initially wanted Single Payer, I am sure we will get some form of HR 676 and the public option as a choice. However it turns out, it will be better than what we have now. Marion

Thank you, my friend. Just as you support your country of Iraq. There is much we all need to do. I am very much concerned over the damage the US has done to Iraq. Over 1 million innocent civilians dead. The country of Iraq is broken. I will be talking about this in my blog because America owes Iraq an apology and needs to help rebuild the country...without interfering in your business. Marion
