In today's news it is revealed that only 28% of the high school kids in Oklahoma could name George Washington as the first president of the US.
What makes you think we are informed or are going to be before a major change in our educational system takes place?

This news is SHOCKING, yet it is a basic questioned asked of immigrants applying to be US citizens. I sometimes wonder if we aren't allowing the right people in as citizens to this country and eliminating the unqualified? Thanks for your lucid comments, Tsandi.

Like a bad dream; can't believe its real.
One would see them occasionally in a crowd. But there they are all together.
Best to leave them alone. All we can do is outvote them.

Is this for real? or did this person search out the dumb ones. Is it possible that this entire crowd that roared into Washington were the most ill informed people in the U.S.? No wonder there is no logical debate happening when the two opposing sides meet.

The dumbing down of Americans has been going on since the 70's. Lack of parental backing for the school system has destroyed the once proud public school system. The education in the last 30 years has been watered down. Children are not learning more but less. In this world economics, they should be learning about math, geography, and history, in order to be more productive adults.
